Get registered!

September 29, 2009

Hey ladies another update on the Fall registration.  Unfortunately our numbers were dangerously low last Thursday, we only secured 10% of the registrations we needed.  Although we are holding another registration Thurs Oct 1st the concern is we won’t get the other 90% required to meet our numbers to secure the full timeslot.   As some of you may have scene Gary is also running registration for the LITG co-ed league as we are trying to ensure the lacrosse community can secure the floor time.  Gary’s fairly confident that LITG can meet the numbers required but may be short he won’t know until Wed for sure after his “final” registration (see details in attached email).   We wanted to make sure you were aware of the situation and share possible scenarios which may pan out, the following being is what we believe will be the most probable….LITG secures registration for the full time slot, no program can be run by the DWLL; LITG has 6 teams and DWLL has a one hour time slot to run a pick up program (modified program), or worst case the numbers are just too low to make the floor time commitment and the floor time is lost completely…no lacrosse for either league.

We wanted to share this to be sure everyone was aware of the situation.  We know its not a pretty but our key objective is to try and ensure the lacrosse community secures the floor time.

We expect by early next week to know how registration has gone and how we will proceed.  Should the worst case happen and the numbers do not meet the floor time requirement we will of course return you money…as well if you would prefer to play in the LITG then we will also return you money.

Thanks for your understanding if you need to reach call me at  1-800-268-1546 ext 234

Ladies we need you to approach registration with a sense of urgency or our Fall season will be at risk!!!

September 24, 2009
The DWLL and LITG leagues have been working together to secure field time at the Whitby Iroquois Soccer Dome.  The dome has specified we need to make a 25 week commitment for 4 hours (8 teams) per night they have also asked we move the start date up to Oct 14th.   Our plan is to split the agreement into two seasons DWLL Oct -Feb and remaining to  LITG .  Given the soccer dome is the only indoor facility offering a full field in the area the dome has been approached by many organizations wanting floor time so they want our firm commitment ASAP.  The DWLL typically has 6 Masters teams in the  fall and we are hoping that we can build two more teams with the modified program.  The modified program would be the same as for our box league, but there would be no cross-checking.  Stick-checking would be allowed, we would use the 30-second clock and loose balls would be loose balls.  Essentially, it would be the same game, without the contact.  Please make sure that you indicate on the registration form whether, in the event there is not enough interest,  you would be willing to play masters or you would like a refund.  This would be the only exception to the No Refund policy.

To ensure we know the commitment of the players we need to ask that you register ASAP.  Please get out  Thursday night Sept 24th or next Thursday Oct 1st at Peel Park in Whiby or mail in your registration ASAP.  If we can’t meet the 8 team requirement then Gary will look to running a 25 week program.

Women’s Box Provincial Championships -Whitby Rush secures a SILVER!

August 13, 2008

Sunday marked a historical event for women’s lacrosse as it was the first time the

OLA offered a Provincial Championship for a women’s adult program.   While the Whitby RUSH did not achieve their goal of winning the inaugural cup it has put that much more of a burn in RUSH bellies to ensure the cup comes home next season.

The RUSH had  a great mix of talent and age, our roster of 19 players ranged in age from almost 50 to 19 and players who’ve played their whole life to just picking up a stick a few years ago.  Every player was pumped to have the opportunity to develop under Paul’s leadership and develop we did!  We knocked Grand River from their undefeated season winning 4-1 to get to the gold cup game.  Every player stepped up to the challenge Sunday and we have some great highlight reels stamped in our memories.  Our championship game against Grand River was very competitive, we had lots of scoring opportunities but the post shut us down!  We have every confidence that next season Paul will coach us to victory.

Thanks for a fantastic season…you made Durham proud!!

All the RUSH players would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our coach Paul Stewart.

Lacrosse Cares Head Shaving Event

June 23, 2008
In support of Troy Henry and the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre some local people are hosting a Lacrosse Cares Head Shaving Event on Thursday, July 17th at Iroquois Sports Centre in Whitby.

We are establishing the number of participants and teams who are willing to join us at this event.  Please communicate with your team and let us know if you are joining us.  $20 in pledges will get a head shave and every additional $20 raised will get you a ballot for a chance to win some great prizes including a chance to win a Wii Package!!  We already have teams lining up.  And a couple of brave grown ups!  (If anyone wants to donate hair, a minimum of 8″ from the ponytail is required.)

Some of you may know Troy as a referee in the Zone 6, Women’s Lacrosse and Whitby Minor Lacrosse programs; you may know him as a lacrosse volunteer and coach or as a teacher.  This Spring, Troy was diagnosed with cancer.  We thank him for giving us permission to host a fun event where kids and kids at heart can show their care and support.  He truly appreciates the kind words and everyone’s support and care.

100% of the proceeds will benefit the Cancer Centre in our Community.  We thank Troy for letting us show our support and we hope that you are able to show your support and participate in our event – sponsorship, pledges or participants or volunteers!

Please contact anyone below for more information, or contact Tammy for pledge forms.

Thank you for caring.
